Italian pop artist aleXsandro Palombo has unveiled a new mural in Tel Aviv titled RUN, located on Yeven Metsula Street. The artwork depicts Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yashar politician Gadi Eisenkot, both wearing bulletproof vests and carrying batons, chasing Bart Simpson, who has been transformed into a young Hamas fighter. The mural appeared on September 29, less than a month before Israel's October 27 Knesset election and days before the anniversary of October 7. Palombo explained that politicizing Bart's character signifies the indoctrination of minors, jihadist propaganda, and the transmission of violence to new generations. The artist is known for using pop culture imagery to address memory, diversity, ethics, antisemitism, and human rights. This work is part of a series of new interventions Palombo is creating in Israel. Despite graffiti being illegal in Tel Aviv, the city has allowed most graffiti relating to October 7 to remain. Palombo has previously reworked Simpsons characters in works addressing the Holocaust and other issues. The article notes that although Netanyahu and Eisenkot sit on opposite sides of the political aisle, the mural places them pursuing the same target amid the election campaign.
