Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived this morning (Friday) at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem to visit the Leiter family. Their son Neriah, who was seriously wounded in the ramming attack at the Maccabim checkpoint last Wednesday, remains sedated and ventilated. His father, Israel's ambassador to the US Yehiel Leiter, greeted Netanyahu. Neriah Leiter was operating in a police vehicle of the Judea and Samaria District along with a police officer as part of a joint mission of the police and the IDF, when a terrorist emerged with his vehicle and deliberately ran him over. Forces at the scene shot the terrorist and neutralized him. The hospital reported that he is still not out of danger, although his condition has stabilized. The story of the Leiter family has become a focus of international interest, after already losing Moshe Yedidya, Leiter's brother, who was killed in fighting in Gaza in November 2023. Neriah's mother, Hani, said in an interview that he underwent two head surgeries upon arrival at the hospital, and that the doctors have begun reducing the anesthesia and are waiting to see how he wakes up. "Now is a time of great uncertainty," she said.
