The Haifa Magistrate's Court today (Wednesday) extended the remand of Ali Maswada, 28, suspected of murdering his wife Yanina Rusinova, until October 11. Meanwhile, Rusinova's body will be flown to her mother, Anna, in Belarus. The Jewish Agency is funding the body's transport, and Ben Ami, the sister of Michal Sela, who was murdered by her partner and a candidate on the Yisrael Beiteinu list for the Knesset, is assisting the family with the authorities. According to Ben Ami, Anna was notified of her daughter's murder only five days after the killing. Anna seeks to raise her infant grandson, whose future has yet to be decided. Ben Ami calls for establishing a "crime victim officer" system, similar to the IDF casualty officer model, to coordinate support for families after a murder. Rusinova, 31, was found on the night between Thursday and Friday, September 25, in a stairwell of a building on Ha'atzmaut Street in Haifa, critically wounded from stabbing. She was taken to Rambam Hospital, where her death was determined. Her husband was arrested on suspicion of murder and denies the allegations.
