Mosquitoes infected with West Nile fever detected in central and northern Israel

The Ministry of Environmental Protection announced the capture of mosquitoes infected with the West Nile fever virus in the north and center of the country. Local authorities have been instructed to expand prevention, monitoring, awareness, and extermination operations. The mosquitoes were detected in Yokneam, Megiddo Regional Council, Ramat HaSharon, Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, and Kochav Yair-Tzur Yigal, and were confirmed in the Ministry of Health laboratories.

The ministry instructed all local authorities, particularly those where the carrier mosquitoes were captured, to expand prevention, monitoring, awareness, and extermination operations. The goal is to reduce the risk of the spread of infected mosquitoes and protect public health. The operations are carried out as part of the ongoing monitoring conducted by the ministry throughout the year, with an emphasis on mosquito season. The northern authorities where infected mosquitoes were captured: Yokneam and the Megiddo Regional Council. The central authorities: Ramat HaSharon, Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, and the local council of Kochav Yair-Tzur Yigal. The detected mosquitoes were confirmed as carriers of the West Nile fever virus in the Ministry of Health laboratories.
