The Bedouin women's movement 'Nashmiyat' and the 'Itach Ma'aki' association launched a protest campaign demanding condemnation of Israeli journalist Ayala Hasson's statements regarding Bedouin women in the Negev and a public apology to them. Over 1,700 people have joined the petition, which accuses her statements of discrimination and racism. Hasson had said, during her participation in a radio program with Eli Tzipori, following the announcement of election results, that the change camp includes Bedouin women in the Negev who wear the hijab and are, according to her, often beaten, and added that their husbands marry other women when they reach the age of twenty-six. The initiators considered that these statements involve discrimination against women and racism, and present Bedouin women in a stereotypical manner that reduces them to the position of victim, ignoring their independence and ability to make political stances and decisions stemming from their own will.
