Suspicion of another cyberattack on supermarkets in Europe, refrigerators heated in Belgium and Sweden
Suspicion of a new cyberattack on supermarkets in Europe: chains in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Sweden reported an IT incident where the temperature in refrigerators and freezers rose, similar to the 'hot refrigerators' attack in France three weeks ago. In Sweden, a temperature of 50 degrees was reported.
Three weeks after the unprecedented cyberattack in France, where hackers broke into cooling units in hundreds of supermarkets, switched them to heating mode, and caused the destruction of tons of food, retail chains in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Sweden are reporting a similar incident. The chain 'Ahold Delhaize' announced an 'IT incident' in which the temperature in cooling systems rose in dozens of supermarkets in Belgium and Luxembourg. The chains ICA and Coop in Sweden reported that the temperature in freezers rose sharply, and at least one ICA store attributed the incident to a cyberattack, with the temperature set to 50 degrees Celsius. The attack in France targeted cooling systems of the Danish company Danfoss, which revealed critical security vulnerabilities. Similar disruptions were reported at the end of August in military supermarkets in the USA, and the Pentagon suspects they were also caused by a cyberattack.
