Police arrested 11 people in Lod on suspicion of public order offenses, after dozens of youths shouted slurs against Arabs and clashed with Arab residents. Mayor Yair Revivo blamed a group of extremists who came from outside the city for inflaming tensions.
Last night (Sunday), police arrested 11 people in Lod on suspicion of public order offenses and disobeying police orders. Lod Mayor Yair Revivo said a group of extremists came from outside the city to inflame tensions, swept up about 20 local youths, who shouted slurs in front of Arab residents' homes, leading to a violent brawl with injuries. Among the participants was Mordechai David, who took part in a campaign by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, and said in a video that they came for a 'governance round' in Arab neighborhoods. Revivo condemned the incitement and violence, and called on rabbis, educators, and Arab community leaders to act to prevent escalation. A city resident complained that the chants 'a state of the Jews' and 'Ben Gvir is coming' do not increase the sense of security.
