As part of his training, he also stayed in New Zealand, where he received a student visa for six months between November 2018 and May 2019. In a 2022 post, Al-Hammami described his years of study abroad as "the golden years of my religious commitment," claiming he became less devout after returning to Oman. In other posts, he expressed support for strict Islamic expectations regarding marriage and dress. Al-Hammami was previously fired from his job as a pilot at Oman Air after extremist materials were found in his possession, but continued to work in an administrative role at the company until 2025.
