Meta launches advanced video editing tool – and it's completely free
Meta has released a free desktop version of its Edits app for Mac, featuring a multi-track timeline, professional color grading, 4K export without watermarks, and support for autonomous AI agents. Limitations include no mobile sync, requirement for an Instagram account, and support only for Macs with M1 chips and above.
Meta has launched an official desktop version of the Edits app for Mac computers, offered completely free of charge. The software is designed to directly compete with CapCut from Chinese company ByteDance, offering a professional workspace with a multi-track timeline, advanced color grading including color wheels and curves, support for external LUT files, and full 4K export without watermarks. A key innovation is support for the MCP protocol, allowing autonomous AI agents to connect directly to the timeline, capable of performing initial cuts and assembling basic edits. However, the initial version has significant limitations: no project sync between computer and phone, requirement for an active Instagram account, Hebrew support not yet officially confirmed, and availability exclusively for Macs with M1 silicon and above, with no support for Intel Macs or Windows.
