New women's prison in Israel: The chosen location and the unusual plan

Southern District Commander of the Israel Prison Service, Gonder Yuval Erlich, revealed a plan to build a three-meter-high concrete wall around the prison complex south of Be'er Sheva, and to construct a new women's prison named 'Neve Tirza' within its perimeter. The measures are intended to prevent escapes and intrusions and to improve detention conditions.

Southern District Commander of the Israel Prison Service, Gonder Yuval Erlich, revealed in an interview with 'Maariv' a plan to build a three-meter-high, four-kilometer-long concrete wall around the prison complex south of Be'er Sheva. The wall will be equipped with detection and identification systems to prevent escapes and intrusions. As part of the plan, a new women's prison named 'Neve Tirza' will be established within the wall's perimeter. Erlich said that recently actions were taken to remove Bedouin encampments that had been set up around the complex. The construction is part of a series of measures to improve conditions for inmates and staff, including new equipment for prison fighters, organizational changes, and the addition of new units. Sources in the IPS reported an increase in the number of female prison fighters enlisting.
