Map of sanctions against Israel, and the containment battle: "The big gun was thwarted - but it's not certain it's immune forever"
A new JPPI database maps 121 sanctions against Israel in 62 countries. The Foreign Ministry said the data is inaccurate and that there are no substantive sanctions, but admitted that a possibility of European sanctions on the trade agreement was thwarted. Political sources clarified that the situation could change in the future.
The Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) has launched a new database mapping 121 sanction measures against Israel in 62 countries. 93 of the measures are defined as active, 19 as historical, and 9 as proposed or planned. Spain leads with 10 measures, followed by the US (8, all in academia), the UK (7), Belgium and Turkey (5 each). The financial sector is the largest with 40 measures, followed by security and defense and trade (24 each). JPPI CEO Dr. Shuki Friedman warns of a cumulative effect that could harm banks, companies, and supply chains. Political sources said the map is biased and that there are no substantive sanctions on Israel, but admitted that a real possibility of European sanctions on the trade agreement was thwarted. The Foreign Ministry stated that it is investing considerable efforts in blocking sanctions, and that Israel will respond resolutely to countries taking measures against it.
