Likud seeks to disqualify Ra'am: Sohlberg sets accelerated timetable for decision

Likud has filed a petition to disqualify the Ra'am party from running in the elections for the 26th Knesset. Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Justice Noam Sohlberg, set an accelerated timetable: Ra'am must respond by Friday, September 18 at 12:00, and the Attorney General must submit her position by September 22. Likud has submitted a request to the Central Elections Committee to disqualify the Ra'am party from participating in the elections for the 26th Knesset. The committee chairman, Supreme Court Deputy President Justice Noam Sohlberg, set an accelerated schedule for handling the request: Ra'am is required to respond by Friday, September 18, at 12:00. The Attorney General will submit her position by September 22 at 14:00. Sohlberg clarified that due to the tight schedule, no extensions will be granted. The current decision does not address the merits of Likud's claims and does not determine that there is a basis for disqualification. The request, filed by attorney Ilan Bombach, is one of three separate petitions against Ra'am—additional ones were submitted by Otzma Yehudit and the "Choosing Life" forum. In total, 10 requests to disqualify lists and candidates have been submitted to the committee. The discussion on the requests is expected to take place in the committee plenum next week.
