Likud attacks the Chief of Staff: helping Eisenkot for his personal benefit

Likud sources are attacking IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, claiming he leaked disputes between himself and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over planned strikes in Iran to help Gadi Eisenkot be elected to the government and secure Zamir's continued tenure. Netanyahu's office denied the allegations.

Likud sources are attacking IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, alleging that he leaked disputes between himself and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over planned strikes in Iran that did not materialize, in order to help Gadi Eisenkot be elected to the government and thereby secure Zamir's continued tenure. The sources claimed that "the real reason is that the Chief of Staff is betting on Eisenkot" and that the false leak was intended to extend his term. The attack comes amid reports of disagreements between Netanyahu and Zamir over preparations for military action in Iran, with Zamir concerned that unusual preparatory steps would be interpreted as preparation for an attack and lead to escalation. It was also reported that Netanyahu said in closed conversations that he intends to fire Zamir if he wins the elections. Netanyahu's office strongly denied the reports, and the IDF clarified that military decisions are made based on professional considerations.
