Laptop prices soar by tens of percent - here's why

Laptop prices are soaring by tens of percent due to global demand for AI components. For example, Apple's MacBook Air has increased by 33% in two months. Industry experts estimate that the price hikes will continue.

Laptop prices in Israel are soaring by tens of percent, and the computing industry warns that the current wave of price increases may only be the beginning. The main reason is the growing demand for components to operate artificial intelligence systems, which puts pressure on manufacturers and reduces the production of components for personal computers. A prominent example is Apple's MacBook Air, which rose from about 5,650 shekels at the beginning of September to about 7,500 shekels today – a 33% increase in less than two months. According to information received by News 12 from senior industry sources, price lists from HP, Lenovo, and Dell have increased by 25%-35% during 2026, and it is estimated that the gaps could reach 45% by the end of the year. The fear of further price increases is already affecting consumers, especially among gaming communities, who are rushing to purchase computers for fear of missing out. HP estimates that certain models could become more expensive by about 1,000 shekels compared to last year.
