UEFA has officially announced that Barcelona's renovated Camp Nou stadium has been selected to host the 2029 Champions League final, edging out Wembley Stadium in London. The decision gives Catalonia a particularly prestigious platform, just one year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Morocco. Renovation work on Camp Nou, which is expected to hold 105,000 seats, is still ongoing, with the upper tier and roof yet to be completed. Barcelona last hosted the final in 1999, in the dramatic match where Manchester United beat Bayern Munich. In contrast, Wembley has hosted the final three times since then (2011, 2013, and 2024) and eight times in total throughout history. UEFA also confirmed that the 2028 final will be held at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. London's disappointment was compounded by its failure to secure the bid for the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The British capital competed against Munich, Rome, and Nairobi, but the Kenyan capital won the hosting rights and will become the first African city in history to host the prestigious tournament.
