Insurance company fined 50,000 shekels – court ruling

A labor court fined the insurance company "Klal Bitach" 50,000 shekels for discriminating against a blind job applicant. The company rejected the candidate after he requested a screen access program, citing "professional incompatibility." The court found violations in the hiring procedure.

A labor court ruled on a lawsuit filed by the Commission for Equal Rights of Persons with Disabilities against the insurance company "Klal Bitach." The company was found guilty of discriminating against a blind applicant for a call center operator position. The candidate, who had significant experience, successfully passed the initial stages of selection, but after notifying the company of his need for a screen access program, the attitude towards him changed. Initially, the company cited security concerns for not installing the software, and later rejected the candidacy due to "professional incompatibility." The court determined that the company did not involve an accessibility coordinator, did not consider alternative solutions, and ignored the candidate's qualifications. Despite the applicant quickly finding another job, the court ordered the company to pay him 50,000 shekels in compensation and 5,000 shekels in legal costs. The verdict served as a signal to Israeli businesses about the inadmissibility of a formal approach to inclusivity.
