Key figure in FBI website breach arrested in Jordan – and opened his mouth wide
Jordanian authorities arrested Seif al-Din Khader, known by the alias Rey, a key figure in the ShinyHunters organization that hacked FBI databases. Khader is cooperating with investigators, handing over devices and intelligence information. Following the arrest, the group's leak site disappeared and they announced a retreat.
Jordanian authorities arrested Seif al-Din Khader, a young man known in the cyber community by the alias Rey, considered a key figure in the ShinyHunters criminal organization. According to a Reuters report, Khader has begun fully cooperating with the FBI, providing investigators with valuable intelligence information, including electronic devices, phones, and encrypted communications. The data stolen from the FBIJobs.gov recruitment site included personally identifiable information, sensitive medical and psychiatric data, and secret roles of thousands of agents. Following the arrest, the group's communication accounts disappeared, their official leak site on the darknet went offline, and the group issued an unusual statement about a complete withdrawal. The development comes days after the arrest in the Netherlands of another gang leader, Pepijn van der Stap. The deputy head of the FBI's cyber division hinted at the move last week, and FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that additional arrests are on the table. Cybersecurity researcher Brian Krebs previously revealed that Khader operated within the Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters hacker collective.
