Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez welcomed the defeats of Republicans in the United States midterm elections and claimed the results indicate a weakening of the far right worldwide. In a post on X, cited by Reuters and the Europa Press agency, Sánchez wrote that Americans rejected policies that "only impoverish," along with hatred, sexism, and climate change denial. He also addressed his political rivals in Spain, Santiago Abascal and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, writing: "The wave of the far right that Feijóo and Abascal are trying to ride is no longer growing: it is collapsing." Sánchez also mentioned Brazil in the same context: "It happened in Brazil. It just happened in the United States. And it will happen soon in Spain." Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told Reuters the results reflect a shift in direction among American voters. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the Democrats took control of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
