Israeli goes hiking on Mount Olympus in Greece - and contact with him is lost

Ami Yogev, 46, apparently went hiking in the Mount Olympus area of Greece last Sunday (September 20, 2026), and contact with him has been lost since. His family in Israel issued a statement this evening (Tuesday) asking for the help of Israeli hikers in the area in an attempt to locate him. According to the statement, Yogev left the Prionia parking area and began ascending the trail. The last contact with him was via a photo he sent to his mother, which according to reports was taken after the second rest stop on the E4 trail on the mountain. It was also reported that there are unverified reports that he was last seen in the Kalakos area, but at this stage it is unclear if this is a confirmed identification. Meanwhile, a person who volunteered to assist the family has gone to the mountain area and is in contact with mountain hut operators and emergency authorities in the area, in order to gather information and try to locate Yogev. The family is asking hikers who have been on the mountain in recent days to check if they saw a person matching Yogev's description, if they passed him on one of the trails, huts, or rest stops, or if they spoke with him and know what hiking route he had planned.
