Iran studies US response to its proposal to open 'Hormuz'

Iran's Foreign Ministry announced it is still studying the US response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and will deliver its answer via mediators. Spokesman Esmail Baghaei indicated continued exchange of messages through Qatar and Pakistan. The point of contention is Washington's insistence on involving the nuclear file at the start of talks, while Tehran wants to limit the first phase to opening the strait.

Iran's Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that it is still studying the US response to the Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that it will deliver its answer to Washington via mediators once the evaluation is complete. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that Iran continues to exchange messages through international and regional parties, primarily Qatar and Pakistan, with the aim of ending the conflict and containing tensions in the region. Iran had presented its proposal to open the vital waterway in mid-September last year, following the collapse of the temporary ceasefire reached in June. However, the secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council revealed that the US response did not adequately address the seven conditions set by Tehran. The main point of contention is Washington's insistence on involving the Iranian nuclear program file at the start of talks, while Tehran insists on limiting the first phase to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring maritime navigation security.
