Instead of the place with the most beautiful view in Haifa: the bench erected in memory of Dana Daniela Petrenko

After a prolonged struggle with the Haifa municipality, Olga Petrenko installed a bench in memory of her daughter Dana Daniela Petrenko, who was murdered at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023. The bench was placed at Dado Beach, at a lookout point overlooking the sea. Olga called on passersby to sit and take photos on the bench, and not to treat it as a monument to be feared.

Olga Petrenko installed a bench in memory of her daughter Dana Daniela Petrenko, who was murdered at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, at Dado Beach in Haifa. The bench was placed between the Nirvana restaurant and the surfing club, at a spot Olga chose about two and a half years ago while walking on the beach with her son and mother. The struggle with the Haifa municipality lasted a long time: initially she received a quote of about 60,000 shekels and was willing to take a loan, but encountered difficulties in obtaining approval. The turning point came after members of the Derech Eretz movement saw posts she published on Facebook. They joined her struggle, and at a meeting near the city hall building promised the bench would be erected. Within days the necessary amount was raised. Yesterday morning Olga received a photo of a crane placing the bench. She describes the feeling as "a relief in the heart," and asks that people sit and take photos on the bench, and not treat it as a monument to be feared. Dana was born in Holon on April 5, 2000, trained in taekwondo from age 12, won medals, loved to dance and travel, and planned to study economics.
