The IDF is establishing a new corps, the Low-Altitude Defense Corps (ROK"K), led by Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan. The move is meant to contend with the drone threat that has grown since October 7. The threat is manifested in attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah, and in the smuggling of weapons and drugs across the Egyptian and Jordanian borders. Five Border Infantry battalions will receive an additional air-defense mission, and significant resources will be transferred to develop training and operational capabilities. A sixth battalion, the Tactical Air Defense Battalion, will apparently join. The process includes procurement of technology from abroad and cooperation with Israeli companies.
