In a personal interview with the program "Cabinet Friday" on i24NEWS, Eli Goldschmidt, former chairman of the Labor Party faction, reveals the ideological transformation he underwent from left to right. Goldschmidt, who was once deeply on the left, a supporter of Oslo and the disengagement, and a member of the kibbutz movement, confesses his mistakes: "I believed that if I gave the Arabs land they would be nice to me, that when there was a disengagement they would turn Gaza into Singapore." He describes the internal shock he experienced after October 7, when he realized that all his adult life he had been wrong. His friend, Yossi Vardi, former head of the Emek HaYarden Regional Council, tells about the harsh reactions in his environment: "Eli is treated as a traitor." Goldschmidt was recently placed on the Likud list.
