The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality is preparing to deploy a new technological system that will identify drivers who honk unnecessarily using microphones and video cameras. The system is expected to begin operating in the first quarter of 2027, and in the first phase will be installed at 11 locations across the city, including the intersection of Bograshov and Tchernichovsky streets and the Rabin Square area. The locations were chosen in consultation with the Environmental Protection Authority. The fine for a private driver will be 250 shekels for a first offense and 500 shekels for a repeat offense; for a corporate vehicle – 500 shekels for a first offense and 1,000 shekels for a repeat offense. The tickets will be issued to the registered owners of the vehicle. The deputy mayor, Dr. Davey Dishtnik, stated that unnecessary honking is a significant nuisance in the public space, and that the system will enable smart, data-based enforcement.
