Hours of searching: 89-year-old woman found inside a garbage bin 3 meters deep

An 89-year-old woman from Ashdod went out in the morning to feed cats, noticed a cat that had fallen into a 3-meter-deep garbage bin, tried to rescue it, and fell in herself. After hours of searching by police and United Hatzalah volunteers, she was located and rescued, suffering from exhaustion and mild signs of dehydration.

A major concern arose this morning (Saturday) in Ashdod, after an approximately 89-year-old woman went out, as usual, to feed cats and disappeared. Her family members, unable to contact her, reported her disappearance, leading to extensive searches in the city involving the Israel Police and United Hatzalah volunteers from the Ashdod branch. The searches were conducted after receiving a specific halachic permit from the organization's rabbi, Rabbi Halperin, due to concern for her life. In the afternoon, the woman was located by volunteers Chaim Gottsman and Efi Greidinger inside a garbage bin buried about 3 meters deep in the ground. Initial investigation revealed that she noticed a cat that had fallen into the bin, tried to rescue it, and fell in herself. Due to the depth of the bin, her cries for help were not heard. The volunteers threw her a bottle of water and calmed her until the arrival of firefighting forces, who rescued her. She was evacuated to the hospital suffering from exhaustion and mild signs of dehydration.
