President Isaac Herzog granted the request of former soldier Elor Azaria and ordered the expungement of his criminal record, about a decade after the affair that shook the country. This follows Defense Minister Israel Katz signing the form and recommending shortening the period for record expungement, contrary to the position of Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir and senior IDF officials who opposed it. Azaria was convicted of manslaughter and conduct unbecoming following the shooting of a terrorist in Hebron, served his sentence, and in recent years worked to have his record expunged, claiming it harms his personal life, employment, and studies. Now, following the president's decision, the record has been officially expunged.
