A man was arrested this evening (Saturday) at a book fair in Gothenburg, Sweden, after spraying a red liquid on an Israeli flag at the booth of the Sweden-Israel Friendship Association. Footage from the scene shows the man with his hands stained red, shouting: "Israel is committing genocide. You must stop the genocide in Gaza and the West Bank." Security guards removed him from the premises. The incident occurred against the backdrop of public controversy surrounding the fair, following the participation of former IDF spokesman for foreign media, Jonathan Conricus, in a program titled "Israel and the International System." In response, Egyptian poet Iman Mersal and Palestinian journalist Bisan Adwan announced their withdrawal from the fair in protest. Israel's ambassador to Sweden, Tami Rachimov Honig, strongly condemned the attack, calling it "an attempt to delegitimize Israel and a violation of freedom of expression." The fair's director defended the decision to host Conricus, emphasizing the principle of free speech.
