Heavy rain floods Gaza displacement camps; COGAT says 91,000 tents delivered
Heavy rain flooded displacement camps in Gaza. Gaza's Ministry of Social Development warned of consequences and called for caravans. COGAT stated it delivered 91,000 tents and other supplies, rejecting allegations of unpreparedness.
The Ministry of Social Development in Gaza warned of unprecedented catastrophic repercussions facing the people of the Strip, following the flooding of thousands of tents for the displaced and temporary shelter centers, especially orphans and families who lost their breadwinner, putting the lives of thousands of families and children under direct threat due to cold and lack of basic life necessities. In a statement issued Sunday evening, the ministry called on all international bodies and UN institutions to immediately begin implementing infrastructure projects, and to urgently allow the entry of all equipment and materials needed to repair networks and field rehabilitation to reduce the recurring flooding tragedies. It stressed the need to expedite the entry of mobile homes (caravans) as an emergency solution to protect the displaced and those who lost their homes, and called for intensifying international pressure in this direction to end the era of cloth tents that are no longer suitable for facing weather fluctuations and atmospheric depressions. The ministry affirmed that the shelter crisis has sharply doubled after the occupation expanded its control over the Strip's territory by moving the "Yellow Line," and the resulting narrowing of available displacement areas, which increased tent overcrowding and exacerbated the suffering of families and orphans in completely unprepared areas. The ministry called on local, Arab, and international media to put the file of tent flooding and the escalating shelter crisis at the top of journalistic coverage priorities.
