From the low – to a 100% surge: The comeback of Michael Saylor
MicroStrategy (Strategy) stock has surged more than 100% from its late-June low, driven by the recovery of Bitcoin's price, which crossed $87,000. The company, most closely associated with Bitcoin, had been sharply cut from its 2024 peak. The decline forced CEO Michael Saylor to break his famous promise "Never sell your Bitcoin" and sell some of the coins to fund dividends and strengthen dollar reserves.
MicroStrategy (Strategy) stock continues its sharp rise, after jumping 10% yesterday and completing a monthly gain of about 40% and more than 100% from the low it reached in late June. The rise comes amid a recovery in Bitcoin's price, which climbed above $87,000 yesterday. The company, which began adopting a strategy of purchasing and holding Bitcoin in 2020, has become one of the most publicly identified companies with the cryptocurrency. Founder Michael Saylor's model is based on capital raises and debt to purchase Bitcoin, while attempting to increase the amount of Bitcoin per share. However, the sharp decline in Bitcoin's price forced Saylor to break his firm promise "Never sell your Bitcoin." In June, the company sold 32 Bitcoins for about $2.5 million to fund dividends, and later sold 3,588 Bitcoins for about $216 million for distributions to preferred shareholders and to strengthen dollar reserves. As of July 2026, the company held approximately 843,775 Bitcoins at an average cost of about $75,476 per coin. Most analysts cover the stock with a buy recommendation and an average price target of $228, reflecting an upside of about 36%, but still far from the peak of over $500 from November 2024.
