A middle-school student in the town of Aubagne, south of Marseille, opened fire at the "Lakanal" school on Monday morning using a hunting rifle. The school principal and a teacher were moderately wounded, and a third person was lightly injured (a scratch). Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of carrying out the shooting. Education Minister Édouard Geffray confirmed the details in a post on X. Authorities stressed that no connection appeared to exist between the incident and the high-school student protests that have shaken France in recent weeks. The Interior and Education ministries announced that the ministers were making their way to the scene. The lives of the wounded are not in danger.
