Former Shin Bet senior official: Netanyahu knew the massacre scenario as early as 2017, now he claims he wasn't told

Former senior Shin Bet official Ilan Shagev claims in an interview with Kan News that Prime Minister Netanyahu knew about the massacre scenario as early as 2017, and that his claims of not receiving warnings before October 7 are false. Shagev describes a meeting of the State Control Committee where Netanyahu himself outlined the attack scenario that eventually materialized, and accuses Netanyahu of repeatedly refusing recommendations to eliminate senior Hamas officials over the years.

Former senior Shin Bet official Ilan Shagev attacked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with Kan News, claiming that his assertions of not receiving warnings before October 7 are false. Shagev explained that there is a distinction between an intelligence picture and an intelligence warning, and that an intelligence picture did exist. According to him, in April 2017, Netanyahu himself outlined before the State Control Committee the attack scenario that materialized about six years later: commandos, drones, conquering settlements, abducting civilians and soldiers. Shagev cited a YouTube video in which Netanyahu describes the scenario, asking: "Where did he know this from if not from the Shin Bet that brought him intelligence?" Additionally, Shagev accused Netanyahu of repeatedly refusing over the years the organization's recommendations to eliminate senior Hamas officials. He described a complex operation to eliminate Ahmed Jabari, Hamas's chief of staff, which was prepared but repeatedly halted by Netanyahu's response: "Maintain readiness."
