Former Shin Bet senior official: "Hamas still controls Gaza, and makes millions of dollars a day"

Naomi Neumann, a former senior Shin Bet official, stated that Hamas continues to control Gaza after three years of war, imposes taxes on goods, and earns 2–5 million dollars a day. She called for drying up Hamas's sources of income and promoting a governing alternative of the Palestinian Authority.

Naomi Neumann, a former senior Shin Bet official and researcher at the Washington Institute, said in an interview with Kan News that Hamas continues to demonstrate effective control over the Gaza Strip even after three years of war. According to her, the Palestinian public encounters Hamas daily and therefore perceives it as the entity that remains. Hamas imposes heavy taxes on goods and generates daily revenues of 2–5 million dollars. It confiscates part of the humanitarian aid, sells products on the black market, and has shifted to a decentralized, unofficial governance model. Enforcement and policing are carried out through secret units that instill fear and enforce discipline. Neumann called for immediately drying up Hamas's sources of income, preventing its infiltration into institutions, and creating independent aid mechanisms. She supported the Trump plan but noted that both Hamas and Israel are creating difficulties. In the future, she said, the Palestinian Authority should serve as the alternative to governance in Gaza.
