The Tel Aviv District Court held a first hearing this morning (Monday, October 19, 2026) in a class-action lawsuit filed against Meta (Facebook) following the events of October 7. The plaintiffs, including victims, families of hostages, and Facebook and Instagram users, demand compensation of over 4 billion shekels. They allege that Meta allowed the spread of horrific videos and live broadcasts from the massacre, contrary to its commitment to provide a safe environment, and even profited from the resulting traffic. The motion was filed in August by attorneys Galit Karner and Asaf Shubinsky. At the end of the hearing, the judge suggested the parties pursue mediation. Attorney Karner stated that the power to represent the families stems from her special clients, and Attorney Shubinsky argued that Meta knew about the content and chose not to prevent its distribution. Dana Shahar Yanai, representing the user public, said that Meta profited from the traffic on that day and continues to ignore reports of content that violates its terms of service.
