In the video, the shooter is heard shouting at the officer "You are going to die for the Jews," moments before opening fire at him and the synagogue. The officer neutralized him and prevented a larger attack. The Belleville police chief stated in a press conference that this was a deliberate attack against the Jewish community, noting that the shooter had the means, motive, and mechanisms to cause a mass casualty event. The attack occurred on Sunday around 7:00 PM, as dozens of Jewish community members gathered for Yom Kippur prayers. Eyewitnesses reported gunfire lasting at least two to three minutes, with dozens of bullets penetrating the synagogue hall through the window. The synagogue president, Norm Wadham, described the moments of terror and the shots through the stained glass window, adding that there are about 20 bullet holes in the windows. According to him, the shooting was deliberately aimed at the synagogue and was not accidental.
