A 23-year-old resident of northern Israel was arrested near Jerusalem on suspicion of transporting illegal residents (shohim bilti hukiyim), after fleeing from a police officer, driving onto a traffic circle and hitting vehicles. The incident began last Tuesday, when an off-duty police officer suspected the vehicle at Motza and ordered the driver to stop. The driver did not comply, began fleeing while endangering road users, drove onto a traffic circle and hit vehicles traveling there, and then fled. Two people were lightly injured. Officers from the Harel station opened an investigation, and during it located and arrested the suspect last night. The illegal residents were also arrested later, and their detention was extended until Sunday. The suspect will be brought today (Thursday) to a hearing on extending his detention in court.
