Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is increasing pressure on Ofer Winter, chairman of the "Amcha Yisrael" party, to withdraw from the election race, and is attempting to arrange a conversation with his rabbi, Rabbi Benyahu Shmueli. The rabbi refuses to speak with Netanyahu or intervene in the matter, after instructing his students not to participate in the elections.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is increasing pressure on Ofer Winter, chairman of the "Amcha Yisrael" party, demanding he withdraw from the election race. As part of the effort, Netanyahu has been trying in recent days to arrange a conversation with Rabbi Benyahu Shmueli, Winter's rabbi, but the rabbi refuses to speak with Netanyahu or intervene in the matter. This was reported this evening (Tuesday) on the main edition of i24NEWS by ultra-Orthodox affairs correspondent Ari Kalman. Winter is close to Rabbi Shmueli and has attended his lessons for many years. Netanyahu's attempts to meet with him also took place before the submission of candidate lists and have resumed in recent days. Rabbi Shmueli instructed his student on Saturday night not to participate in the elections, and his aides made it clear to the prime minister's people that he refuses to intervene in the matter.
