President Isaac Herzog granted the request of former soldier Elor Azaria and ordered the erasure of his criminal record, about a decade after the affair that shook the country. This comes after Defense Minister Israel Katz signed the form and recommended shortening the period for record erasure, contrary to the position of Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir and senior IDF officials who opposed it. Azaria was convicted of manslaughter and conduct unbecoming following the shooting of a terrorist in Hebron, served his sentence, and in recent years worked to erase the record, claiming it harms his personal life, employment, and studies. Now, following the president's decision, the record has been officially erased.
