Father strangled his infant son to stop him crying - and was sentenced to a year in prison

The Jerusalem District Court sentenced a father to 12 months in prison for strangling his infant son to stop him from crying. The prosecution is appealing the leniency of the sentence.

The Jerusalem District Court sentenced a father to 12 months in actual prison for strangling his infant son to stop him from crying. According to the verdict, over several months the father attacked his son by pinching, biting, and shaking him, and when the baby cried in the evening, he placed two fingers on his neck until he lost consciousness for a few seconds. The court determined that the father turned strangling his son into a method of sedation. The prosecution, through attorney Yitzhak Friedman, filed an appeal to the Supreme Court arguing that the sentence is excessively lenient, and that these are repeated acts of abuse against a helpless infant, posing a real risk to his life. The prosecution requested that the father be sentenced to five years in prison.
