Jordanian security personnel killed in stabbing attack in Amman

A Jordanian security officer was killed and another wounded in a stabbing attack near the Sri Lankan embassy in Amman. The attacker, previously charged with terrorism, was arrested. Separately, a Turkish soldier was killed on the Iran border on October 31.

A fatal stabbing attack occurred at noon (Thursday) in the Jordanian capital Amman, in front of the Sri Lankan embassy. A Jordanian security forces member was killed and another was wounded. The attacker, known to have been previously charged with terrorism, was wounded, arrested, and taken to the hospital. Jordan's Public Security Directorate described the incident as a "cowardly terrorist attack" and stated that the attacker planned to target members of the General Security Directorate. The state television network "Al-Mamlaka" reported that the attacker tried to snatch the weapon of the killed security forces member. The attack comes just two weeks after the deadly shooting attack at a church in Jordan, in which nine people were killed. Meanwhile, Turkey's Ministry of Defense reported a separate incident on the border with Iran, where a Turkish soldier was killed on October 31 in an exchange of fire during an illegal border crossing attempt. Representatives from Turkey and Iran met at the scene and are cooperating in the investigation.
