Elections in Israel: The losers discover reality
Prof. Daniel Friedmann analyzes in his column the election results: Netanyahu lost his majority, Eisenkot did not form a government, Shas declined. The only winner is the Arab public in Israel. He warns against a policy of ignoring and cautions that if East Jerusalem Arabs vote in the municipal elections, Jerusalem could get a Muslim mayor.
Prof. Daniel Friedmann, former Minister of Justice, analyzes in his column on ynet the results of the recent elections in Israel. According to him, there are many losers: Benjamin Netanyahu lost his majority, Gadi Eisenkot failed to form a government despite leading the largest bloc, and Shas experienced a decline. The only winner is the Arab public in Israel, numbering over two million citizens (about 20% of the population). Friedmann asks whether it is possible to continue a policy that ignores their existence. He warns that if East Jerusalem Arabs participate in the municipal elections, Jerusalem could get a Muslim mayor. He also notes the approximately 2.5 million Palestinians in Judea and Samaria without rights, exposed to "Jewish terror," and warns of global sanctions if a political settlement is not found.
