Sheeran addressed the issue from the stage, telling the crowd he made "mistakes" during "difficult decisions" and that he never wanted to be an activist musician. Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered near the venue to raise awareness about Gaza. Macklemore posted on Instagram that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and other stadium owners told Sheeran that Macklemore would not be allowed to perform at their venues if he remained on the tour. Kraft confirmed in a statement that Macklemore would not perform at Sheeran's upcoming shows at Gillette Stadium. Macklemore said "Free Palestine" during a September 4 concert at MetLife Stadium and wrote that if those words cost him the stage, it was the most successful tour he has been on.
