Maariv poll ahead of Yom Kippur: 62% of Israelis intend to fast fully

A Maariv poll ahead of Yom Kippur 5787 reveals that a majority of Israelis (62%) intend to fast fully on Yom Kippur, with an additional 5% fasting partially. 27% state they will not fast at all, and 6% do not know. The data is identical to the results of a similar poll conducted last year. Among the secular public, about a third intend to fast (29% fully, 5% partially), while a large majority (58%) does not intend to fast at all. In the religious-Zionist sector, 96% will fast fully, 3% partially, and 1% do not know. In the Haredi sector, 95% will fast fully, 2% partially, 2% will not fast at all, and 1% do not know. The poll was conducted by Lazar Research headed by Dr. Menachem Lazar, in collaboration with Panel4All, on September 16-17, 2026. 600 respondents participated out of 4,089 invited (15%), a representative sample of the adult population in Israel. The maximum sampling error is 4%.
