Retired Supreme Court President Asher Grunis informed the incumbent Supreme Court President, Yitzhak Amit, on Sunday afternoon of his resignation from the role of chairman of the State Commission of Inquiry into the Submarine Affair due to his medical condition. In a statement, it was reported that Grunis would not be able to participate in the commission's hearings in the coming months, and since postponing the hearings would harm its work, he requested to end his tenure. Amit appointed commission member, retired Supreme Court Justice Zvi Zilbertal, as chairman of the commission. Additionally, former President of the Central-Lod District Court, retired Justice Ruth Lorch, was appointed as a member of the commission. The other commission members remain in place: Prof. Karnit Flug, Gideon Frank, and Brig. Gen. (res.) Prof. Yaakov Bortman. Supreme Court President Amit expressed appreciation for Grunis's dedicated work and wished him good health, and thanked Zilbertal and Lorch for their willingness to serve in the new roles.
