A woman was arrested in Tehran on suspicion of stealing gold jewelry worth about 5 billion tomans (approximately 86,000 shekels) from her father-in-law, after replacing them with fakes she had ordered in advance and selling the originals on the gold market. According to reports in the Iranian news agencies IRNA and ILNA, over the course of about two months, the woman visited her father-in-law's home under the pretext of helping the family, photographed the jewelry in the safe, and ordered exact replicas. She later replaced the originals with the fakes and sold the real gold to a person dealing in stolen property, who was also arrested. In her interrogation, she said the background to the act was a conflict with her sister-in-law, and she feared the jewelry would be passed to her as an inheritance due to her mother-in-law's illness. The authorities have not yet announced whether the original jewelry was located.
