The Supreme Court ordered a freeze on the implementation of the media reform promoted by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, and issued a conditional order requiring the state to explain why the entire law should not be annulled due to "flaws in the legislative process." The decision was made by a panel of three justices led by Justice Yitzhak Amit, along with Justices Alex Stein and Yechiel Kasher. Further proceedings will be transferred to an expanded panel of nine justices. The justices criticized the government for failing to submit its response to the requests for interim orders. The decision follows petitions filed by the Journalists' Association, the Press Council, the Movement for Quality Government, and the Israeli News Company. At this stage, the High Court has not yet decided whether to annul the reform, but the order prevents the law from taking effect until a further decision.
