A Gulfstream G100 air ambulance, owned by Latitude Air Ambulance, vanished from radar early Saturday morning while en route from Bermuda to Boston. According to FlightAware data, the aircraft sharply descended from 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet in just three minutes. The US Coast Guard located a debris field off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and is conducting intensive searches using an HC-130 Hercules aircraft, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, rescue boats, and the cutter William Sparling. On board were six people: two pilots from Canada, two medical crew members, a patient, and an escort. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation. Aviation experts, including former US Department of Transportation Inspector General Mary Schiavo, assessed that the aircraft suffered a deadly combination of a safety malfunction and severe weather. Bermuda's Prime Minister, David Burt, issued a statement expressing deep concern and reaching out to the families.
