The Gaza Municipality opened a new school named "Afak" in the Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, in a step aimed at supporting the educational process amid the severe damage to the educational sector caused by the Israeli war. Mayor Yahya Al-Sarraj presided over the opening ceremony, attended by his deputy Tamer Al-Reis, municipal council member Mustafa Qaza'at, the Director of Education for East Gaza, as well as community leaders, dignitaries, parents, and students. Al-Sarraj emphasized that the establishment of the school is part of the municipality's contribution to supporting education, driven by its belief in its importance despite the difficult circumstances. The municipality allocated a number of its facilities to open temporary schools with the aim of providing places for the continuation of students' education, at a time when the education sector faces major challenges due to the destruction that has affected schools and educational facilities, resulting in depriving thousands of students of their right to education. The local initiative highlights the importance of providing temporary educational alternatives to maintain the continuity of the educational process and mitigate the effects of the war on the future of students.
