Deputy head of CEC: It is impossible to rig elections in Israel
Deputy head of the Central Elections Committee, attorney Dean Livne, stated that it is impossible to rig elections in Israel from within, calling the procedure the most controlled in the country. He does not rule out attempts at external interference through bot networks but emphasized the difference between fakes and reality. Livne also sees no reason to postpone the October 27 vote due to the security situation.
Deputy head of the Central Elections Committee of Israel, attorney Dean Livne, spoke on October 13 at the "People of the Country" conference organized by the Yedioth Ahronoth media concern. He stated that it is practically impossible to rig elections in Israel from within, calling the procedure the most controlled in the country. Livne acknowledged that attempts at external interference may be made, primarily through bot networks spreading fake news with the aim of delegitimizing the process and causing societal division. However, he emphasized that there is a big difference between fakes and reality, and the CEC manages to cope with this threat. Responding to a question about possible non-recognition of results by the losing side, Livne called for respecting the procedure and democracy, promising to explain to every doubter that the results reflect the will of voters, not a conspiracy. He also said he sees no security events that would prevent the October 27 elections and noted that postponing the vote would require a qualified majority of 80 parliamentary votes.
