Democrats call on Shin Bet to secure Golan: "We expect Zini to make a decision quickly"

The appeal comes after the ministerial committee for Shin Bet affairs decided to task the service chief with deciding on security for party leaders who are not active Knesset members or ministers. The party demands a quick decision and no foot-dragging where there is real danger.

The Democrats party is turning to Shin Bet chief David Zini demanding to secure party chairman Yair Golan, following a sharp rise in threats on his life. The appeal comes after yesterday the ministerial committee for Shin Bet affairs decided to task the service chief with deciding whether and how to secure party leaders who are not active Knesset members or ministers — Golan, Gadi Eisenkot, and Ofer Winter. The Democrats demand that the Shin Bet chief ensure Golan's security given the severity of the threats. The party stated: "We expect Zini to make a decision quickly, and not to delay or drag his feet where there is real danger." After an interview by Sara Netanyahu on Channel 14 where she hinted at a conspiracy that Golan is a traitor, a surge in threats against the Democrats chairman was reported. The party's CEO, Omer Lovton-Granot, turned to the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Solberg, demanding he order Golan's security. The advisory committee to the Shin Bet chief ignored the threats against Golan and recommended securing only Eisenkot, even though the threat level against Golan is defined as level 4 out of 6, identical to Eisenkot's. Security for Eisenkot has not yet been implemented due to prolonged discussions.
