Danny Kushmaro, a News 12 anchor, sparked a storm with a monologue in which he criticized residents of the Mishor HaGafen neighborhood in Ofakim, where 33 people were murdered in the October 7 massacre, after 65% of its residents voted for the Netanyahu bloc in the last elections. His remarks drew sharp reactions online, including from bereaved families and media figures. Nissim Hamoui, father of Ella, may she rest in peace, who was murdered at the Nova festival, compared the voting results in southern communities to statements made before the massacre. Commentator Tamir Morag attacked the monologue and the News 12 system, and Noam Fathi called Kushmaro "a monkey trained to attack." Right-wing activist Amalia Ozer recalled Kushmaro's remarks in July 2023 about the fitness of the Air Force.
